CU’S CENTER FOR BUSINESS AND SOCIETY TO HOST
LEEDS-NET IMPACT CASE COMPETITION FEBRUARY 24-25
The Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado at Boulder will host teams from some of the most prestigious universities in North America for the fifth annual Leeds/Net Impact Case Competition February 24-25.
The Leeds /Net Impact Case Competition challenges teams of four MBA students concerned with corporate social responsibility to formulate sustainable and profitable solutions to a current company's business issue.
The competition focuses on the relationship between business decisions and societal impact with participants arguing the best solution to the case drawn from a current company issue in terms of both profitability and sustainability.
Each team presents its analysis and solution to a panel of industry and academic leaders during both preliminary and final rounds. The competition will be held at the Millennium Harvest House, 1345 28th Street in Boulder, and the public is invited to attend the final round of the competition beginning at 3 p.m., Saturday, February 25.
Competing teams represent the Bainbridge Graduate Institute, College of William & Mary, Duke University, McGill University, Michigan State University, Stanford University, University of Alabama, University of Alberta, University of California, Berkeley, and the University of California at Los Angeles.
Also competing will be teams from the University of Colorado at Boulder, University of Iowa, University of Kansas, University of Minnesota, University of North Carolina, University of Utah, University of Washington (Seattle ), Washington University in St. Louis, Yale University, and York University.
The competition is sponsored by the Leeds School ’s Center for Business and Society, and Leeds students organize the competition as well as compete. The team representing the Leeds School includes MBA students Jane E. Pater, Chad Arnold, Elza Ishido Fernandes, and Ryan. R .Krug. The student organizing committee includes Rachel Couch, Holly Upper, Geoff Kunz and Rich Barone.
Originally founded as "Students for Responsible Business," Net Impact is a network of 10,000 emerging business leaders committed to using the power of business to create a better world, Net Impact has developed from a great idea shared by a few business students into a mission-driven network of new leaders for better business.
The Center for Business and Society supports and encourages intellectual inquiry into the role of business in society, including business ethics and leadership, as well as the impact of business on the environment. Efforts by the center contributed to the Leeds School being ranked 17th globally by Beyond Grey Pinstripes, which evaluates MBA programs on preparing graduates for social and environmental stewardship.
This year, the Leeds/Net Impact Case Competition will be part of the inaugural Sustainable Opportunities Week, highlighting business trends and innovations in sustainability. The week features a business summit focusing on successful initiatives in sustainable enterprise and workshops and student competitions addressing challenges in sustainability.
